When I was a kid my family would go to Colorado once a year to visit my grandfather who lived in Colorado Springs. After visiting Grandpa, we would go into the Rockies and enjoy the mountains. We didn't camp but we did take lots of day hikes.
In the 70's when I was out on my own, I started going on backpacking trips. Almost all these trips were to somewhere in the Rockies. I enjoyed them all very much. But after 5 or 6, there started to be something of a sameness to them.
About the time I realized this I received a list of trips which included one to climb Mount Kilomanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. I went on it and had a great time. This was in 1979 and basically in the 80's I trekked many places around the world.
In 1988 I added a new wrinkle to this by going on a mountaineering trip to Mexico. Mountaineering is between trekking and mountain climbing, at least by my definition. Mountain climbing, I picture people dangling from ropes and such dangerous things. In mountaineering, you may be on ice and snow and you may be roped up for safety. But otherwise you're able to get where you're going on your own two feet.
Since them I've done a variety of trips, trekking, hiking and mountaineering.
All but the first trip to Kilomanjaro were operated by a company known as Mountain Travel-Sobek. They run trips like these just about everywhere. Their catalog is fun reading whether you go on any of the trips or not.
I hope you enjoy reading about my trips.
